FC Barcelona recently sacked their coach Ernesto Valverde.
The former Sevilla manager had run his course at a big club like Barcelona. Although he did win the league on both occasions, he was not performing well in Europe. Neither was he playing football the Barcelona way.
He has now been replaced by Quique Setien. Setien has won two matches and lost one for the new team. However, there are already doubts about his ability to coach Barcelona.
Setien maybe a good coach but he has never managed a big team. He is a coach who has done his fair share of work but never worked for a big club.
Barcelona are a brand. A culture that needs fine tuning. And maintaining.
However, Barcelona are failing majorly at the moment in that.
What they are failing to realise is for someone to uphold the culture at a clib – they themselves need to be familiar with it.
Look at Frank Lampard at Chelsea or Mikel Arteta at Arsenal – for a second ignore the Ole factor (the train wreck).
Hence, going by that culture and logic – the only profile which comes to mind is the Xavi Hernandez guy.
He is a club legend and a Barcelona man through and through.
