Gavi is enjoying a breakthrough season with Barca.

Barcelona head Xavi demands his club tie Gavi down to a new contract. Gavi is currently one of the best players in Barcelona. His contract will expire in June 2023 and includes a €50m (£42.5m) release clause.

His great form attracted interest from a number of elite European clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool, and PSG.

The 17-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough season with Barca. Xavi saw a spark in him and he is an important first-team member for the Catalan giants. Barca’s head wants to see the young midfielder commit to his long-term future at Camp Nou.

While speaking to Marca, Xavi said: “We must act now to renew him. If necessary, we put money together. He and Ansu, Pedri, Araujo are important for us.

“He is one of the players of the future of the club. The entity is working on its renovation.”

A previous report has also stated that it is “only a matter of time” before an agreement in reached between both parties for Gavi to sign a new contract and set a significantly higher release clause.

Gavi has made 21 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona this season, scoring once and providing three assists.
