Lamine Yamal wasn’t pleased with his recent performance in Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Alaves, admitting he felt frustrated with himself, especially after being substituted in the second half.
Lamine Yamal: “I Was Annoyed with Myself” After Alaves Substitution
The 17-year-old forward, who has been in scintillating form this season, found himself less involved than usual against Alaves.
Despite showing flashes of his talent, Yamal wasn’t satisfied with his overall contribution to the match.
Reflecting on the game, he explained, “I was annoyed with myself after being taken off because I know I can do better. I demand a lot from myself, and that’s the standard I need to maintain to play at my best.”
Though his frustration was evident, Yamal expressed full respect for his manager, Hansi Flick.
He praised the German coach’s positive influence, saying, “Flick is always there for everyone, whether you’re playing regularly or not. His support gives us confidence, and you can feel it in the atmosphere around the team.”
Yamal also took a moment to highlight the role of Robert Lewandowski in the squad.
“He gives everything he has on the pitch, and we’re all very happy for him,” Yamal noted, showing admiration for the Polish striker’s commitment.
With growing recognition following his standout performances at Euro 2024, Yamal is also adjusting to a life in the spotlight.
“Since Euro 2024, things have changed a lot. I can’t go out as freely as I used to, especially with my mother. People know us now,” he shared.
Finally, the young winger spoke fondly of Andres Iniesta, a player he considers a Barcelona legend.
“I was young when he scored in the World Cup, but I remember watching him play alongside Messi and Neymar. He will definitely be missed.”
