Riqui Puig claims no coach has ever trusted him

Riqui Puig joined LA Galaxy on a permanent deal this summer.

The Spaniard is expected to make his MLS debut against the Seattle Sounders this week.

He moved on from Camp Nou this summer window after failing to establish himself at Barcelona even though he was regarded as one of the highly-rated talents.

He admits he has lost confidence after failing to convince his many coaches at Barcelona.

“Being in Barcelona while all my teammates were here in Los Angeles playing games… The truth is that it hurt me a lot,” Puig said.

“It’s a complicated situation because there were four other teammates who weren’t having a very good time, and that makes it even worse, being in Barcelona alone and training with a physical trainer.

“Sometimes you have to make decisions. They made that decision. I don’t share it.”

The midfielder seemed excited to start his new chapter in a new country.

“I couldn’t imagine this club was reaching out to me… I couldn’t believe I was being called by the LA Galaxy,” he said.

“I like to take risks. It’s a new city for me, I think it’s a great opportunity. This is a league for young players. Trust me, in the coming years you’ll see more young players.”
