The Catalans are already considering replacement options since Ousmane Dembele, who recently signed a five-year contract with PSG, is on the verge of leaving FC Barcelona
Given that the two clubs are now planning to negotiate a fee rather than PSG invoking his €50 million release clause, an exit might take some time to accomplish. In the event that the French international joins the Ligue 1 winners, Barça are already putting effort into finding a successor.
Additionally, according to journalist Josep Capdevila, Barcelona is considering former striker Alexis Sanchez as a possible Dembele replacement. Between 2011 and 2014, the 34-year-old played 141 times for Barça during his three-year stay, tallying 46 goals and 37 assists.
In 2014, Alexis departed the Catalans for Arsenal, where he enjoyed a fantastic run. However, after joining Manchester United in 2018, Alexis’ career began to fall apart dramatically. The Chilean sensation joined Olympique Marseille after unsuccessful experiences with United and Inter Milan. He had a successful season, scoring 18 goals in 44 games.
Due to Marseille’s contract ending on June 30, Sanchez is now a free agent and is eligible to sign a free transfer agreement with Barcelona. The 34-year-old’s agent is currently in Barcelona, according to the Josep Capdevila report, which might feed rumours even further. In addition to Sanchez, the La Liga winners might look into bringing Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid into the lineup to take Dembele’s place.
Leroy Sane of Bayern Munich was also mentioned in reports from earlier today as a potential alternative for Barcelona. After his strong performances for club and country over the past year, the Catalans may aim to give Ez Abde a bigger role within the group. When Dembele departs, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona considers these alternatives or goes the Alexis Sanchez path.
