Barcelona target Ivan Fresneda close to signing a deal with Sporting Lisbon

It is now generally known that Barcelona needs a right-back to reinforce their right side, especially after receiving the unexpected news of Ousmane Dembele’s departure

The Catalans have been made aware of numerous names, with different club divisions highlighting their top priority.

Joao Cancelo and Ivan Fresneda appeared to be the most commercially viable possibilities out of all the names considered. But in the end, with Cancelo at the top of Xavi’s list, it seems as though the signing of Fresneda is becoming less likely.

Fresneda’s transfer to Sporting Lisbon of Portugal is drawing criticism. Fresneda is gradually being dropped by the Blaugrana hierarchy in light of the recent developments in the Cancelo transfer, as Barça are just a few details away from finalising the trade.

In the past, Deco had expressed a preference for the Real Valladolid phenomenon, and it was speculated that Barcelona may sign both right-backs, with Fresneda going on loan in that case. However, Barcelona has devised a plan to sign Cancelo to a loan agreement with a non-obligatory buy clause with the aid of superagent Jorge Mendes.

After agreeing to personal terms with Barça and patiently waiting, Fresneda’s chances of moving to Catalonia have therefore been jeopardised by the prospective arrival of the Manchester City player, leading him to look into alternative options. Fresneda, whose market value is €15 million, decided to pay attention to the several other offers he had because he is now aware that his chances of playing for Barcelona this season are extremely slim.
