Barcelona will be looking to sign Arsenal’s veteran midfielder Jorginho during the upcoming January transfer window in order to add more depth to their midfield following the loss of Sergio Busquets. Last summer, the Catalans, led by manager Xavi Hernandez, explored the prospect of bringing in Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich.
However, financial difficulties hampered the club’s pursuit of the German international, forcing it to turn its focus to players approaching the end of their contracts or falling out of favor at their respective teams.
Despite being just 32 years old, Jorginho has already been identified as a top target for the La Liga giants. The Italian maestro joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January of the previous year in a £10 million transfer. According to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, Jorginho’s experience would greatly improve the Gunners’ midfield, a belief that has been confirmed by the player’s perfect adaptation into the club.
Jorginho, like former Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, has been enticed by the prospect of donning the legendary Blaugrana colours at the Nou Camp. Barcelona has been looking into the possibilities of bringing Liverpool star Thiago Alcantara back to the Nou Camp. Thiago, who left Barcelona for Bayern Munich in 2013, has been identified as another potential midfield addition for the Catalan club.
Barcelona will be looking to revitalize their midfield and compete strongly in both domestic and international competitions during the January transfer window.
