Dembele explains why he left Barcelona for PSG during an interview with L’Equipe.
Ousmane Dembele was Barcelona’s vital player but he left the club in the summer of 2023. He decided to leave the club for a contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Frenchman was supposed to leave the club in 2022 but Xavi gave him faith and he stayed for one more season. He was showcasing his best performances for the Catalan giants last season.
Barcelona were having regular discussion with the player so they could extend the contract but PSG came out with an improved contract.
Dembele explains why he left Barcelona for PSG during an interview with L’Equipe (h/t SPORT), “Indeed, I said I would stay at Barcelona, but after contacts with PSG I was convinced to leave,” he said.
“Kylian did not try to convince me, I came to Paris because I love the club, it is a French club and I love it. I come from Evreux, not far from here. Everyone here talks about Paris Saint-Germain. It was written that one day I would sign for this club.”
He also added, “I have many friends, supporters of the club, who always tried to convince me to come. Was it easy to choose after my best months at Barcelona? I wanted to sign for PSG.”
