Oriel Romeu sealed a move to Barcelona earlier this season.

The veteran midfielder made a shock return to his former club for a reported €8m fee and signed a three-year contract with the Catalan giants.

Barcelona needed a strong presence in the middle of the park and Romeu seemed a natural replacement for club legend Sergio Busquets.

Romeu had a decent start to his new life at Camp Nou but his performances has declined drastically in the coming months.

His performances started to take a hit after Frenkie de Jong’s injury and he is now out of the starting XI for manager Xavi.

Roma are reportedly interested in the out-of-favour midfielder as a potential January reinforcement.

The Serie A giants are aiming to replace Renato Sanches who has struggled to impress Jose Mourinho and could leave this January window.

Barcelona are currently struggling with options in the middle of the park after losing Gavi to a season-ending ACL injury.

The Catalan giants are keen to add a midfielder to the squad before they can sanction an exit for Oriol Romeu.

Romeu has also been linked with a move back to Girona but the transfer will more likely take place in the summer.
