Since taking over as Ronald Koeman’s replacement in November 2021, Barcelona coach Xavi has asserted that his club is better now than it has ever been
Barca was at its lowest point in decades when Xavi was given the keys. Due to the club’s terrible financial state, Lionel Messi had to be released in the months prior since they lacked the funds to register a signed contract extension.
Additionally, the squad had a horrendously bad start to the season, winning just four of its first 12 La Liga games under Koeman and temporary manager Sergi Barjuan.
After almost two years, Xavi’s influence has been profound. Only five of the 20 players who made up the matchday squad for Barca’s 3-3 draw with Celta Vigo the day before Xavi’s arrival are still in the team today. Barca blew a 3-0 halftime lead.
Barcelona, hoping for a solid performance in Europe after being eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage in each of the previous two seasons, benefited from two more goals from newly acquired Joao Felix.
Joao Cancelo and Ilkay Gundogan, two other recent arrivals, also made an impression.
