FC Barcelona faces a big blow as their key defender and first-choice left-back Alejandro Balde has sustained an adductor injury while on national team duty with Spain.

The left-back started for Spain during their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers match against Scotland last night. The 19-year-old was withdrawn at half-time by Luis de la Fuente. Fran Garcia replaced him on the pitch.

Spain national team released a statement that Balde had suffered from some discomfort in his adductors. It’s a big blow to the team for the upcoming El Clasico game.

“Nico Williams and Alejandro Balde have been called off due to physical problems after Spain’s victory against Scotland (2-0),” the statement read.

“Williams has had a strain in his intercostal muscles since last Tuesday, while Balde suffers discomfort in his adductors.”

The left-back will miss Spain’s trip to Norway, and Alfonso Pedraza will replace him in the squad. He is likely to miss Barcelona’s first game in La Liga.
