Barcelona considering appointing Rafael Marquez as club's new head coach

Barcelona board are not showing good interest in Xavi.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is now reportedly considering options to replace Xavi due to some poor results. They are looking to appoint Rafael Marquez as the club’s new head coach. Xavi is now facing huge pressure from the board.

The Catalan giants suffered two consecutive defeats against Girona and Royal Antwerp. Girona pushed them to fourth in the La Liga table.

A recent report says that the Barcelona board are not showing good interest in Xavi and they want a new manager. As per reports of Marca, Laporta has already identified a replacement in  Marquez.

The report adds that the Barca president has been impressed with the Mexican’s ‘tactical acumen and deep understanding of the club’s philosophy’.

The 44-year-old made 242 appearances for Barca during 2003-2010. He won four La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey and two Champions League titles in the process. He was also in charge of Barcelona B since July 2022, penning a two-year contract.

Xavi has taken charge in 112 matches as Barcelona’s head coach. He has 69 wins, 20 draws and 23 defeats. He won La Liga and Supercopa Cup last season.
