Marcos Alonso set to leave Barcelona by the end of this season.

Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso will reportedly leave the club next summer amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

The veteran defender has made only seven appearances this season and is currently down the pecking order when it comes to the left-back position.

His contract with Barcelona expires in June 2024 although the club has the option to extend his deal for a further 12 months.

The former Chelsea defender has scored thrice in 44 games for the Catalan giants and is deemed surplus to the current Barcelona setup.

Saudi Arabian clubs are interested in signing him in January but the defender has no intention to seek an exit until the end of his current deal.

Club manager Xavi praised the Spaniard’s professionalism after he signed a new contract until June 2024.

“I am really happy with Marcos. Firstly, as a person and as a professional inside the dressing room, where he has adapted really well,” he said at the time.

“But also as a player. He is solid, mature and experienced. He has been a top-level signing and will be really important for us moving forward.”
