Mateu Alemany still unsure about De Jong’s future at Barcelona.
The Dutch midfielder has been linked with a transfer move to Manchester United this summer to reunite with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.
De Jong is one of Barcelona’s prized assets and they might need to offload him to balance the books at Camp Nou.
Barcelona’s finances still remain a major issue for the club and even manager Xavi is concerned about the club’s economics that could fuel De Jong’s transfer.
“Is De Jong non-transferable? Yes, for me he is a very important player, he has been a starter in nearly every game apart from when he needs to rest,” Xavi said. “He is fundamental to the team, but then there is the economy to consider…we all depend on the economic situation.”
Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany confirmed that no decision has been made yet for the Dutch midfielder.
“We haven’t made any decisions on the squad,” Alemany said. “De Jong is important for us. We are clear about what we need, and also that we are conditioned by financial fair play.”
