Barcelona added Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu to their midfield lineup to strengthen their position
But before the transfer window closes, the club may decide to bring in another midfielder. SPORT claims that Barcelona is looking into the prospect of signing Oscar Zambrano. The club is not willing to invest the €5 million that LDU Quito requests, but they are considering other ways to cut operating expenses.
Zambrano, a defensive midfielder by trade, has risen to prominence in his native Ecuador rather quickly. He has participated in 29 competitive games for LDU Quito and is a consistent member of the Ecuador U20 team.
Zambrano has received a positive evaluation from Barcelona scouts due to his powerful build and defensive prowess in the middle of the park. The teenager was suggested to the Catalan club by Ronald Araujo’s agent, Edmundo Kabchi. Since then, Barça has kept a close eye on the teenager, especially in light of his exceptional performances at the most recent FIFA U20 World Cup.
Zambrano is wanted by Barcelona to join the Barça Athletic team. In order for any member of the team to transition to senior football, they seek to strengthen the subsidiary squad. The Blaugrana are looking into measures to reduce the cost of the operation since they are unwilling to pay €5 million for a player who will initially be part of the subsidiary team.
Barcelona may also think about giving LDU Quito a portion of the player’s rights so that they can receive a cut of any future sales of the midfielder. As Barça looks to sign the young Ecuadorian ahead of the new season, the upcoming weeks might be key, especially given that a number of other teams are also interested in the South American defensive midfielder.
