In the battle to recruit Mallorca defender Pablo Maffeo, Barcelona is ready to contend with Sevilla at any costs

In order to prepare for the 2023–24 season, La Blaugrana are continuing their team overhaul, with right back being a crucial position to strengthen.

Arnau Martinez had previously been connected to a transfer to return to the team from Girona, but his asking price was deemed to be too exorbitant.

Maffeo, who rose through the ranks at rival Espanyol’s youth programme, is said to be eager to leave Palma and would be a less desirable option.

Following his loan return from Bayern Munich, Joao Cancelo is still seen to be Xavi’s top pick to fill the right back position next month, but Manchester City are unsure of their strategy for the Portuguese international.

However, according to reports from Diario AS, Barcelona must act quickly if they are serious about Maffeo because Sevilla has made headway in their negotiations with the midfielder. Mir, who is hesitant to join Mallorca, is presently holding up a contract, so Barcelona may have a chance to hijack it. They appear to be about to miss out on another right-back target, though.
