Barcelona has signed Inigo Martinez on a free transfer.
The 32-year-old defender becomes Barcelona’s third signing of the summer after Ilkay Gundogan and Mikayil Faye.
The Spaniard is one of the most experienced and reliable defenders in the league earning 20 caps for the international side.
He will provide depth to Barcelona’s backline as manager Xavi aims to add a few more defenders in the summer window following the departure of Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti.
Martinez explained how manager Xavi has convinced him to make a move to Camp Nou this summer.
“I’ve had a talk with the coach, but we haven’t had much time to talk in depth either. What he has transmitted to me has been all his confidence,” Martinez said.
“Rest assured, everything will go well. I’m at a great club. He’s willing to help me. Xavi has shown me from minute one that he wants me here.”
