Barcelona defender Pique caused outrage in Catalonia last month.

He said that the players were ready to take pay cuts to adjust Neymar back at Barcelona.

However, the board failed to oblige. Pique said last month: “We didn’t stump up money.

“What we said to the president was whether we could change our contracts because we knew there was a Financial Fair Play issue… so we said to the president, rather than earn something in year one, we could earn it in year two or three or four.”

However, Suarez has calmed down the situation by saying Pique did not know what he was saying.

“When Geri speaks, sometimes you have to take everything with tweezers,” Uruguayan Suarez told Sport.

“He has a lot of work and a lot of experience in making statements. In this case he knows and is aware that the players were totally out in the case of Ney.

“We were willing to welcome him or any player who wants to come, but always oblivious to the case.”

Suarez said: “[His integration has been] spectacular, sometimes things are misunderstood. Both Leo and I and Geri himself welcomed him a year earlier, said he was a great player and was one of the best in the world.

“He came from being world champion and we already praised him. Then we didn’t know what was going to happen to him, we weren’t sure he was coming this year.

“We treat him as one more. It is also true that some have more affinity with some partners than others; in his case he gets along very well with the French players.”

Dortmund warned to bring A-game versus Barcelona

Dortmund chief Zorc and club CEO Watzke have sent across a strong message to the German club Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund were humiliated against Bayern Munich last weekend and the club has now been warned to either turn up at Barcelona with their A-game.

“Obviously the topic will be discussed publicly because our situation is more than unsatisfactory,” Zorc told Funke Sport.

“Of course we will analyse that very intensively. But we are going to the match in Barcelona with Lucien Favre and we expect to see a significant increase in performance there.

“We need a performance. We finally need a good performance on the pitch so you can look forward.”

Watzke had kind but dangerous words for the coach and a stern warning for the players.

“Dear Lucien, you still have our trust,” Watzke said at the club’s AGM. “But in the end football is always defined by results.

“We all hope you and the team are able to turn this around. You have all the support we can give you.”

Directing a stern message towards the club’s players, he added: “Pull yourselves together and play like it is expected from Borussia Dortmund. You as a team must know that only words are not enough.

“It is your duty to let them be followed by actions.”

Will they be able to overpower the mighty Barcelona?

Barcelona eye summer move for Manchester United star Marcus Rashford

The La Liga giants look to replace Luis Suarez ahead of the upcoming season.

As a result they are considering a summer move for Manchester United ace Marcus Rashford.

It is Mundo Deportivo who reports that Barcelona are interested in signing Marcus Rashford, although it remains unclear as to whether his current side, Manchester United, is keen to let him leave.

Rashford joined Manchester United in 2005 as a youth-level player, at just eight years of age. A decade later, he was promoted to the senior team and since then, he has scored 54 goals and provided 29 assists in 187 appearances for the club, across various competitions. In the ongoing 2019-20 season, he has recorded nine goals and three assists in just 17 matches for United, and is also their top-scorer for the season right now.

Meanwhile, at Barcelona, Luis Suarez has encouraged the club to find a new striker to replace him, as he is unsure of his future with them. “There will come a time when my age will not allow me to live up to what Barcelona needs to compete,” Suarez was quoted as saying by Ovacion, an Uruguayan publication.

“But as long as I can, as long as I have the strength, giving me competition is much better. That they are looking for or want to bring another number nine is nothing strange, it is the reality of football,” he added further, before concluding:

“It will be better for me and better for the club, because it will feed competition, and it will be better for the future because the club can prepare a player with the help of all the great players at Barcelona.”

Valverde happy with the win

Barcelona struggled to yet another win against Leganes last night.

The Catalan club looked listless as they were yet again about to lose to a lowly Leganes side. It was once again some Messi magic and some individual magic which saw them throught.

A late winner from Arturo Vidal was crucial for the Barca contingent. It is not typical of the Barcelona we have seen over the last decade to have to scrape through matches and expect to win from a random goal but that is what Valverde’s side has been doing.

Valverde however, said he was very happy with the way the club won.

“It’s [an] extremely important [win] because we found ourselves behind and the game was going away from us. The pitch was terrible, it was very windy and they sat deep to defend.

“I don’t want that to sound like an excuse because we struggled. By pushing hard and going in search of openings through set-pieces we were able to win. But it was very tough. I know our game wasn’t brilliant but we are happy with the result.”

Do you think Valverde can turn it around?

The Blaugrana are looking to shake up their squad next season.

They have set their eyes on Bayern Munich’s Kimmich.

Barcelona is preparing for next season and it has several players on its wish list. The La Liga leader is enjoying a decent current campaign, but it already has one eye on 2020/21.

On Friday, Mundo Deportivo suggested the Camp Nou board have identified the targets they would like to sign a new candidate for the right back position in Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.

Barca attempted to sign versatile Bayern and Austria international David Alaba last summer but were rebuffed but are confident that their primary target, Germany defender Kimmich, can be persuaded to trade the Bundesliga for La Liga.

Kimmich is under contract until 2023 with the Bavarian giants and per the report, they have no intention of letting him go, unless the player himself demands it. If Barcelona fail to land the Byaern defender, they will turn their attention to 23-year-old Klostermann, who has broken into the senior Germany side this year and whose contract at Leipzig expires in 2021.

The Blaugrana is also targeting Inter Milan’s hit-man Lautaro Martrinez for the next season.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has spent six seasons at Camp Nou.

However, he has admitted he could soon move to the MLS.

Luis Suarez is “very happy” at Barcelona but admits he is open to the possibility of joining a Major League Soccer club. The Uruguay international is in his sixth season at Camp Nou and has another full campaign left to run on his current deal.

Suarez, who turns 33 in January, has been touted as a possible target for David Beckham’s Inter Miami franchise ahead of their MLS debut next year. Several established stars have made the switch Stateside in recent years, including the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney, while talented youngsters have been lured from South America.

“MLS is a competition which has grown a lot in the last few years and you can see that with the young players that have moved there in the last two years, above all the South Americans,” Suarez told ESPN. “That shows that the league wants to grow and not just bring in players of a certain age that are going to retire there. They look for that mix to make the league better.”

The Uruguayan scored in Barcelona’s 2-1 fightback at Leganes, as he headed in a pass from Lionel Messi in the 53rd minute to cancel out Youssef En-Nesyri’s opener. Substitute Vidal put Barcelona in front after a defensive error with 11 minutes left.

If there is one man who knows a thing or two about winning the Ballon d’Or, it is Lionel Messi.

The most coveted individual award, the Ballon d’Or is a French award given to the world’s best footballer. While most sportsmen journey all their life to reach that summit once or even get nominated for it, Lionel Messi has made it his home.

He has won the prestigious award no less than 5 times and could be set to win again this December.

He scored an incredible 51 goals last season and looks set to go one better this time again. The man himself has now revealed what the trophy means to him.

“It is a beautiful recognition and perhaps the most special was the first,” he told Otro.

“It is something that comes from the collective. Without having achieved all the collective successes that we had to achieve, I wouldn’t have been able to get these individual awards.”

“The image of the three nominees for the Ballon d’Or, it was special for us because of the friendship we have,” he said.

“Being so long in the same club, all three living practically the same during our whole careers and special for the club.

“For what it means, the truth, it was impressive.”

Luis Suarez Keeping Option Of MLS Move Open

Luis Suarez Keeping Option Of MLS Move Open

Luis Suarez has refused to rule out a move to the MLS even when he is happy at Barcelona.

He earlier stated that the La Liga giants should be looking into signing his replacement.

“I didn’t commit to anything [with Lodeiro]. I had a conversation with him. MLS is a league that any player would be interested in and I asked him about the competition and about his teammates,” the South American said.

”I have a contract with Barca and I am very happy here. In the future you never know, it’s an attractive league.

”Given that I have been lucky to have had success at the top level for a long time, what I would look out for [next] is stability for my family and the well-being of my children. They would all make the decision along with me and the United States is a nice possibility.”

Suarez’s contract is set to last till the summer of 2021 with an option to extend one more year. He is content at Camp Nou but is willing to leave whenever he feels like his services are no longer needed.

Barcelona have been linked with quite a few strikers ahead of the January transfer window including Red Bull Salzburg’s Erling Haaland.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Barcelona: Again?

Zlatan is on the move and Europe is on alert.

He said last month: “I know I could still make the difference, both in Italy and in other countries.

“I’d do better than the players who are there playing now.”

And ahead of his proposed move back to Europe, Ibrahimovic has posted a hilarious farewell message on social media.

He wrote: “I came, I saw, I conquered. Thank you @lagalaxy for making me feel alive again. To the Galaxy fans – you wanted Zlatan, I gave you Zlatan. You are welcome. The story continues…Now go back to watch baseball.”

Well as you can expect, there are multiple clubs vying for his signature. However, one club where he has already played and been openly unhappy is Barcelona.

However, Barcelona is in a spot of bother at the moment. They need player up front who can get them regular goals and Zlatan is a scorer.

Suarez is ageing. Barcelona need to get a scorer without affecting their budget too much since they have already spent a fortune.

Getting in a stop gap solution for a season like Zlatan could be ideal. Will Zlatan agree though?

Pique sets retirement date

Pique sets retirement date
Bildbyran

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has set a date for his retirement from the game.

The Spanish defender has been in Barcelona all his life excepting a small spell away in Manchester United.

However, it was in Barcelona that the defender realy hit the heights and won it all. Pique has had an illustrious career throughout.

He has been one of Barcelona’s key players in the last decade and will be signing out on a high whenever he chooses to retire.

He said, “I have always said my last team will be Barca. I have absolutely no intention of wearing any other shirt because … I have been a ‘Cule’ all my life. For me, being at Barca is the biggest dream of all.

My intention is to get to 2022, but I don’t have a crystal ball, and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to do it. If I see that I lose importance or see that I am not at the [required] level, I have no problem leaving earlier. I don’t think it will happen because I know myself and I am able to endure until 2022, but you never know.”
