How are Barcelona doing on the transfer deadline day?
For a club that has won the league more than 7 out of the last 10 times by beating Real Madrid, for a club who has won the Champions League thrice in the last 15 years, for a club who has produced not one but two different scintillating unbeatable football teams in the last 10 – Barcelona are surely in trouble.
Their legend is a one man army as Barca without Leo are worse than mid-table teams. Their board is in shambles. Wrong transfers, political unrest, bad manager selections and the club is headed south rather rapidly.
Things could have been fixed with a few good signings in January to get the team back on track. However, we sit on January 31st today and what has Barcelona done so far?
In defence, they have not been able to convince their goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen to sign a new contract. In front of him Pique is old and Lenglet is average. Their summer target De Ligt signed for Juventus while other targets like Koulibaly were not even approached. Barcelona needed looking at right backs as well but just one day of rumors circling Hector Bellerin was the extent of it.
Midfield was the area of problem with wrong players all over the park. However, let alone sign new boys, Barcelona failed to even unload the has beens like Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic.
The embarrasment however comes up front. Barcelona were already humiliated after failing to land Neymar despite the player doing his best to force a move.
Now they have their star forward Luis Suarez out injured and hundreds of names were looked at.
Rodrigo, Piatek, Giroud, Cavani, Werner, Richarlison were all linked. Rodrigo move failed without a bid while Piatek joined Hertha. Cavani was deemed not their type. Werner was pushed out for later and Richarlison’s 100 million euros bid got rejected.
Sad state of affairs as Barcelona get more and more desperate to sign a striker for the next four months. Who do you think we should sign?
