Getafe president confirms interest in midfielder Oriol Romeu.

The veteran midfielder secured a three-year contract upon his return to Camp Nou in the summer transfer window.

Barcelona needed a strong presence in the middle of the park and Romeu seemed a natural replacement for club legend Busquets.

But the 32-year-old midfielder failed to establish himself and has already been linked with a move away this January.

His performances started to take a hit after Frenkie de Jong’s injury and he is now out of the starting XI for manager Xavi.

But with Gavi out for the remainder of the season, Barcelona is struggling with a shortage of midfield options.

Getafe president Angel Torres has expressed an interest in signing the out-of-favour midfielder as the veteran is deemed surplus in the current Barcelona squad.

Torres said: “Nothing is impossible in football. I have told many times about Messi. I was able to bring him in when I was 16. In football, there are difficult things but not impossible. We are working on four or five very advanced things,

“We are waiting for the coach to come tomorrow or the day after tomorrow and give his agreement. One or two reinforcements will come as long as the coach agrees.”
