Key Barcelona midfielder suffer big injury in El Clasico

De Jong picked up a worrying injury following a challenge by Federico Valverde.

Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong faced an injury during the El Clasico encounter. He was stretchered off in Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid.

The Dutchman made a comeback after an ankle injury and it was his third start in four games. Barcelona started the scoring through Andreas Christensen before Vinicius Junior scored the equaliser.

The Catalan giants were dealt a significant blow when De Jong picked up a worrying injury following a challenge by Federico Valverde. He was upset by the apparent ankle injury.

Fans applauded De Jong as he was stretchered off and replaced by Pedri on the stroke of halftime. In his absence, Barcelona made it 2-1 courtesy of Fermin Lopez, before Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez scored a goal to set up a grandstand finish.

Jude Bellingham once again set up a winner in El Clasico. Real Madrid are now 11 points ahead of Barcelona and they are winning the La Liga with six games to go.
