Ralf Rangnick has emereged as a contender for Barcelona’s manager.

The Austrian manager has lined up for a surprise return to club management in the summer.

Barcelona manager Xavi announced that he would be stepping down from his role towards the end of the current campaign.

While announcing his departure, Xavi labeled the Barcelona job as ‘cruel and unpleasant’ to the media.

Ralf Rangnick, who is currently managing the Austrian national team endured a difficult six-month spell at Manchester United as the interim manager.

The 65-year-old manager is well respected in his native Germany following spells at Stuttgart, Hannover 96, Schalke 04, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig.

He has emerged as one of the contenders to take over the Barcelona job at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

The former RB Leipzig chief’s contract with Austria runs until the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.

Since Xavi’s announcement, several candidates including Xabi Alonso has emerged on Barcelona’s radar.

Club president Joan Laporta is a huge admirer of Rangnick who helped Austria qualify for Euro 2024 in second place behind Belgium in their preliminary section.

However many believe that the German tactician is a better transfer guru than a head coach and a manager, so appointing him could become a huge mistake.
