Xavi will continue to be the manager of FC Barcelona until the end of the season

Imanol Alguacil emerges as contender for Barcelona managerial role

Following Barcelona’s recent troubles under Xavi Hernandez’s supervision, the Catalan giants are apparently investigating prospective replacements for the renowned player-turned-coach. Real Sociedad tactician Imanol Alguacil has emerged as a name in the conversation.

According to Sport, Barcelona president Joan Laporta and former player Deco both expressed love for Alguacil at the recent MARCA awards presentation. The 52-year-old coach attracted notice after leading Real Sociedad to Champions League qualification last season, an important achievement for the club.

Despite Laporta and the Barcelona board’s ongoing support for Xavi, the club’s uneven performances have fueled talk about a possible managerial move. Although Girona’s Michel Sanchez has been linked to the role, Alguacil’s name has garnered prominence due to his good track record in La Liga.

If Barcelona decides to break ways with Xavi, Imanol Alguacil, whose contract with Real Sociedad runs until 2025, could be a potential choice. The Basque-born manager’s great attachment for Real Sociedad and the local culture may offer a stumbling block in the bargaining process.

Given his emotional ties to his current club, Barcelona would have to move carefully if they want to bring Alguacil to the Camp Nou.
