Xavi explains red card incident in Barcelona’s win over Atletico Madrid

Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona’s mastermind, was once again in the spotlight after receiving a red card during the team’s 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid. However, Xavi has explained that his removal was due to his actions on the touchline rather than his statements.

“The referee said he sent me off for my gestures. I didn’t say absolutely anything,” Xavi told reporters after the game. “I’m always respectful. If I make gestures it’s because I’m very passionate.”

The incident occurred just before half-way, when the referee, Jose Maria Sanchez, chose to send off Xavi following a series of signals made by the Barcelona manager.

Despite his absence from the outside, Barcelona continued their dominance on the play, with goals from Joao Felix, Robert Lewandowski, and Fermin Lopez.

The win was Barcelona’s tenth straight unbeaten streak across all competitions, a stunning record that further underlines their comeback under Xavi’s guidance. In addition, it became Atletico Madrid’s first home defeat in La Liga this season.

Xavi’s dismissal comes amid a season marred by touchline dispute, since this is his third touchline suspension of the season. As a result, he will miss Barcelona’s upcoming domestic league games against Las Palmas and Cadiz.

However, there is a silver lining for Barcelona fans: Xavi’s suspension won’t affect his involvement in European things. This means he will be available on the sidelines for the critical Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite their remaining run, Xavi remains humble, emphasizing that Barcelona is the underdog in the duel with the French giants. With his tactical prowess and unrelenting drive, Xavi continues to propel Barcelona to new heights, laying the groundwork for an intriguing clash on the European arena.
