The on-fire Brazilian player could have been a Barca player.

Now he is Gunners’ second top goalscorer.

Arsenal attacker Gabriel Martinelli has revealed that he was rejected by Barcelona despite training for fifteen days with the Spanish giants. The 18-year-old arrived in the Premier League last summer after Arsenal swooped for his services from a little known Ituano and has been one of the positives in a turbulent season for the Gunners.

Speaking to Marca, the Brazil Under-23 international said: “Shortly before the Sao Paulo Cup I spent a few days training in Barcelona. I spent 15 days there. Barcelona invited me to train with them in La Masia but afterwards they didn’t want to do anything with me, they didn’t tell me anything. I went back to Ituano, I played Copinha and then I came to Arsenal.”

In the Premier League, Martinelli has scored three times in 14 appearances and scored three goals and three assists in the group stages of the Europa League. In all competitions, he has scored scoring 10 times in 23 appearances for Arsenal this season and has been a key figure at the club since Mikel Arteta took over the reins of the club.

The teenager also revealed last year that he had trained with Manchester United on four occasions between 2015 and 2017.
