Frenkie De Jong has been linked with Manchester United consistently this summer.
The Red Devils want to reunite Ten Hag with De Jong at Old Trafford ahead of the new season.
He is currently the most valuable asset to Xavi’s squad and the club wants €65 million for his services.
But if Xavi tells the board that De Jong is an integral part of the club’s future, De Jong might just extend his stay at Camp Nou.
De Jong always went on record stating Barcelona as his ‘dream club’.
Journalist Ben Jacobs said: “I genuinely believe De Jong when he says Barcelona is his dream club and he’d like to stay and that’s why Barcelona need to make it abundantly clear to De Jong that they want him to leave.
“but if it’s intimated by Xavi, for example, to De Jong that he still has an integral part to play at the football club, you still might find that the big twist in all this is United do the leg work and then De Jong turns down the deal.”
