The Catalans are looking into the prospect of bringing back Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, one of their former forwards.

Memphis Depay, who appears prepared to leave Camp Nou, is currently the subject of negotiations between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Although Depay’s exit may not be particularly significant for Barcelona, it will undoubtedly leave a vacuum in the attacking area.

According to Telegraph, Barcelona is looking at legal options to bring in Aubameyang during the current transfer window in January. Aubameyang, who joined Chelsea in the summer, is only permitted to play for two teams under FIFA regulations. Therefore, the only team in a position to sign the forward during this January transfer window is Barcelona.

They might encounter a significant obstacle in their chase of Gabonese international, though. This is so that players who have had their RFEF licences cancelled aren’t able to get fresh ones the same season, according to La Liga’s rules.

Aubameyang cannot get a new licence to play for Barcelona in the league as a result of his La Liga registration being cancelled in the summer due to his transfer to Chelsea.

For the Catalans, who have few choices on the market for a replacement for Depay, this is a significant setback. To that purpose, Aubameyang was considered one of the best choices because the former Dortmund star had great success at Camp Nou in the second half of the previous season.
