Barcelona are keeping an eye on all options for ideal replacements for Xavi who is going to leave the job at the end of the season. They picked Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi as their priority.
Brighton & Hove Albion head coach was today drawn on the ongoing speculation surrounding his name. He gives his opinion on current stories regarding his potential move to Spain.
The Italian is on the radar of Barcelona and they are seeing his progress at Brighton where he has been a successful manager. He helped the club to earn European qualification last season and they are also in the knockout round of the UEFA Europa League.
Diario AS as ‘Blaugrana DNA’ reported earlier that De Zerbi has emerged as Barcelona’s priority. While talking on the media last weekend, De Zerbi also confirmed his openness to linking up with one of Europe’s top clubs:
“When I hear that big teams are interested in me, it is an honour,” he began, during an interview with Sky Sports. “I am proud, but my focus is on my work day-by-day.
“About the future, I will speak with the owner [Tony Bloom] and with the club because I want to compete in the best way I can. I want to understand the plan, and then it is not a problem to work in a big, big team or another big team.
“I would like in my career to compete to win the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, La Liga, Champions League but there isn’t a time when you have to go and compete, or to wait some more time.
