Barcelona hoping to sign midfield powerhouse Aleix Garcia.

The Blaugrana are in the market for new midfielders this January as injuries to both Gavi and Pedri have left the club with limited options in the middle of the park.

Barcelona are in the hunt for a new pivot as summer arrival Oriol Romeu has struggled to find his place in Xavi’s XI this season.

Aleix Garcia, who has been one of the best players in La Liga this season has been heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou this winter.

Garcia is the captain and a defensive midfielder for Girona who are currently joint-top holders in the La Liga table.

The 26-year-old will cost around €20 million, a sum which unfortunately Barcelona cannot afford.

The Blaugrana are interested in a part-exchange deal and have a few players up for grabs in return for the Girona captain.

But Girona president Delfí Geli insists he does not want to lose any of his star players midway through the season.

“At the end, there’s only a clause that can make a player leave. With Aleix, despite everything that’s been said, he’s fully committed to the season and our project. He’s happy and will continue unless something new comes up.”

“I don’t know if Barcelona wants him. He’s our player, and that’s what matters at the moment.”
