Frenkie de Jong’s contract will expire in the summer of 2026.

Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has left the door ajar for a potential move away in the future. The Dutchman has been linked with Man United but deal didn’t happen. The Red Devils came close to sign him in the summer of 2022 but de Jong preferred to stay at Camp Nou.

Former Ajax manager was keen to get the Dutchman at Old Traffod. De Jong stayed at Barcelona and helped them to win the La Liga title in 2022-23.

Barca midfielder has spent last four years at Camp Nou. De Jong has insisted that he is still happy to be at Barcelona. The Netherlands international said in an interview with Dutch outlet NOS, “I am at the club where I always wanted to be, where I dreamed of.”

He also added, “I have not yet won the trophies I want to win and I am not yet the player I want to be. There is still room for improvement and I still have time, but I would like to get there as quickly as possible. As a footballer you want to win the big prizes, I haven’t won them yet.”

When asked whether testing himself in a new league had any appeal, De Jong said: “Possibly. But I’m very satisfied at Barca. It’s always difficult to say. For now I feel good here!”

His contract will expire in the summer of 2026 and he will make his return to La Liga this week. Barcelona are currently sitting at fourth position, seven points adrift of the league leaders.
