Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu is a man under pressure.

With his new election coming up, the president has been looking to actively find ways to make his stay permanent.

However, he has had to admit that a move for a top star and attacker like Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez has been ruled out.

“Barça have been talking to Inter for several weeks about Lautaro, but the talks were stopped in agreement with Inter. The situation does not allow for big investments.”

He, however, remains confident that he can get Lionel Messi back in the frame and keep him at the club. Messi’s future has come under question after the club legend repeatedly expressed agitation at the running of the club and its lack of desire and ability to challenge for trophies at the top level.

Bartomeu remains confident that he can keep Leo in the club given the player’s love for Barcelona.

“Messi has always said he wants to end his professional career at Barça. Despite the expiry of his contract in 2021, Leo will have another three to four years of high-level football at his disposal. I have no doubt that he will keep his word and end his career at Barcelona.”
