Brighton are close to completing the acquisition of Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati

Chelsea and Tottenham have both been linked with a bid for the Spain international in the last 24 hours, but the Seagulls now appear to have won the race to sign him.

Fati has opted to quit Barcelona to pursue his career abroad after receiving less playing time under Xavi.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barça is now ready to accept the formal application for a loan move.

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is said to have played a crucial role in the player’s choice to join the Premier League club in the final days of the transfer window. Brighton likes to bet on young players, and they sold World Cup champion Alexis MacAllister to Liverpool this summer, as well as fellow midfielder Moisés Caicedo to Chelsea.

Barcelona would believe that loaning Fati out is the best option, and Brighton may be the appropriate destination. The Catalan club will receive a loan fee in addition to having his pay removed from the books, but will not lose him entirely. They will also be hoping that he would progress as a player during the 2023-24 season.
