Barcelona and Clement Lenglet have put a lot of effort into getting the player to go, but so far without success
However, the 28-year-old is still weighing all of his alternatives as the summer transfer window comes to an end.
Lenglet spent a year on loan at Tottenham, where he appears ready to return, but talks between the two clubs have stopped. The Frenchman joining Saudi Arabia is a possibility given the dearth of European bidders.
Currently, Sevilla is in discussion with Barcelona about re-signing Lenglet on a loan, according to Luis F. Rojo of MARCA. The player’s hefty wage is the current biggest challenge. Prior to being acquired by Barça in 2018, Lenglet had already accrued 73 official appearances for Sevilla. He had a strong run in Seville, therefore the Andalusian team wants to re-sign him and strengthen their defence.
Barcelona apparently has been more open to a loan period while preferring a permanent transfer price; now, getting rid of Lenglet’s €16 million salary is their top objective.
These enormous salaries also discourage Sevilla from acting. Therefore, it would seem that Barcelona might have to agree to continue paying a portion of his salary for the loan agreement to go through. Saudi Arabia and Sevilla are starting to look like viable choices for Lenglet as he makes a choice. The player is aware that he has no chance of playing regularly with Xavi and will eventually have to make some sacrifices.
