Oriol Romeu

Girona’s sporting director Quique Carcel discussed a potential chance for Oriol Romeu to return to the club.

Oriol Romeu has got a chance to make a return to his former club but it would be a surprise if he does so. He was one of the interesting signings from Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

He was sort of a last-resort option for Xavi, in their bid to find a replacement for Sergio Busquets who left the club in the summer. Barcelona paid around €3.5 million for Romeu, who joined on the back of an excellent spell at Girona.

Girona’s sporting director is keen to see his comeback at the club in future. The lack of chances at Barcelona may see a return of this talented player.

In a recent interview, Girona’s sporting director Quique Carcel discussed a potential chance for Oriol Romeu to return to the club.

Carcel said (h/t Diario SPORT), “Personally, I want that 100%. Romeu gave us magical things. A lot of players told me that he taught them how to compete.”

Romeu had played for Girona between 2022 to 2023 and made 34 competitive appearances. With 821 minutes of action, he is the 10th most-used Barcelona player by Xavi this season.

Talking about Romeu’s potential return, Carcel said, “It’s not easy because he has a contract with Barcelona, but I don’t see it as unlikely.”
