Gonzalo Higuain wants Messi to take up a new challenge.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has entered the final few months of his contract with the Catalan giants and will become a free agent at the end of June.
According to his international compatriot Gonzalo Higuain, Inter Miami would welcome Messi with open arms and urged him to take a new challenge.
Speculations over the Argentine’s future is amplifying with each passing day and a number of top European clubs are interested in landing the Barcelona legend.
Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are frontrunners in signing the 33-year old forward.
In the 2020/21 season, Messi has scored 27 goals in 36 games across all competitions.
“[Andrea] Pirlo came here [to MLS] when he was a world champion, so did [Thierry] Henry, [David] Villa and [Blaise] Matuidi,” Higuain told ESPN.
“I see no reason why Lionel couldn’t come here. If it would make him happy, we would welcome him with open arms.
“At some point, he will decide where he wants to play play and what is in his own best interests on a personal and sporting level, but in my opinion, he has the caliber to continue competing for the Champions League.”
