Joan Laporta made Messi vow after vote submission

Joan Laporta elected as the new Barcelona president.

Laporta won the Barcelona presidential elections by securing 55,611 members votes and will enjoy a second term with the Catalan gaints.

He took the charge of the club back in 2003 which proved to be a hugely successful one.

Laporta had promised that Messi would stay if he were to be elected and he would get an early blow to his credibility if Messi decides to leave in the summer.

Joan Laporta was asked if he would be with Messi’s entourage tomorrow to discuss his future, he said: “Why tomorrow? I can talk tonight, the night is long.”

He also added: “The sensations are good. I have gone out to vote and the sun has risen.

“I hope it will be a great democratic day. It is a pity that we cannot live the day close to Barcelona fans because of the coronavirus.

“We have the best project to face the most important challenge of our lives.

“We want Barça to be sustainable again and that it never ceases to be the property of its partners. We have done a great campaign.”
