Lionel Messi is expected to leave Camp Nou by the end of this season.

Ronald Koeman urged Lionel Messi to stay beyond the summer and believes Barcelona’s young side could convince the 33-year old forward to stay.

Barcelona are out of the Champions League drawing 1-1 against PSG on Wednesday to seal a 5-2 aggregate defeat.

This match could have been Messi’s last European competition in a Barcelona shirt and his plans for his future remains uncertain.

Messi would leave on a free transfer and clubs like Manchester City and PSG are frontrunners in signing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

‘Messi must decide his own future, nobody can help him with this,’ Koeman said.

‘He’s seen for a long time now that the team is going in the right direction. And with the changes we’ve made and the youngsters who are only going to improve, he can’t have doubts about the future of this team.

‘Everyone can be proud, including our president. We’ve shown our face and from the first to the last second we saw a team that wanted to win this tie.’
