Marcus Thuram, a striker for Borussia Monchengladbach, won’t stay with Die Fohlen past the summer of 2019, when his contract is set to end
Barcelona has been given the opportunity to acquire the France international for no fee. The 25-year-old is wanted by several teams in Europe, and Barca is one of them. The Blaugranas are interested in the player because of his versatility and desire to outperform the opposition. Due to their current financial predicament, the Spanish giants are forced to pursue players who will shortly become free agents.
To compete with Rober Lewandowski, they are looking to add a striker, and Thuram checks all the right boxes, particularly given his versatility across the front three. They’ll have to contend with teams like Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and La Liga foes Atletico Madrid, who are also keeping an eye on the Frenchman.
With Die Fohlen, Thuram is presently having a memorable season. In 23 games so far, he’s scored 14 goals and given four helpers. For Daniel Farke’s team, who is currently mired in midtable in the Bundesliga and 13 points off the top four, his goal efforts have been crucial.
For a while, Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff, the club’s directors, have been keeping an eye on Thuram, and they’ve come to the conclusion that he fits with their ideology. Although Xavi Hernandez, the manager of Barcelona, already has a number of choices for the attack, Thuram might turn out to be a wise addition for the Spanish powerhouses.
The former Guingamp striker, who has nine French national team appearances, will strengthen and speed up Barca’s assault. In addition, his father, Lilian Thuram, who represented Barcelona from 2006 to 2008, has been pressing for his son to sign with the Blaugranas.
