The Uruguayan will be absent for probably the rest of the season.

But, Barca will surely look for replacements.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez will be out of action for four months after surgery on his injured right knee, the Spanish champions announced on Sunday. The 32-year-old centre-forward has scored 14 goals from 23 appearances for Barcelona this season, with the club sitting atop the Spanish league and facing Napoli in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Early estimates suggested he would miss the next six weeks, however, after successful surgery, the Blaugrana have since confirmed that the striker will be ruled out for approximately four months.

“First team player Luis Suarez has been operated on this Sunday by Dr. Ramon Cugat, who used keyhole surgery to resolve an injury to the external meniscus of the right knee by performing a suture,” a statement read on the club’s official website. “The Uruguayan striker will be out for approximately four months.”

Antoine Griezmann is now expected to replace Suarez as the lead striker for the Bluagrana between now and the end of the season. Moreover, it is not excluded that the Spanish champions return on the market for a new striker in order to fill the void left by the former Liverpool man.
