More and more teams are finalizing their selections for the Euro 2020. So with the final date for national teams to submit their 23-man squads on 4 June, many teams are choosing to confirm them early. So here is what we know so far…
UEFA Euro 2020
The 2020 UEFA European Football Championship is scheduled to be the 16th UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international men’s football championship of Europe organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
The tournament is scheduled to be held in 12 cities in 12 UEFA countries from 12 June to 12 July 2020. Portugal are the defending champions, having won the 2016 edition. Former UEFA President Michel Platini said the tournament is being hosted in several nations as a “romantic” one-off event to celebrate the 60th “birthday” of the European Championship competition.
Having the largest capacity of any of the stadiums entered for the competition, Wembley Stadium in London will host the semi-finals and final for the second time, having done so before at the 1996 tournament in its former incarnation. The Stadio Olimpico in Rome will host the opening game, involving Turkey and hosts Italy.
Barcelona Euro 2020 players (so far)
Barcelona have 10 players at the Euro 2020. All 10 FC Barcelona players who represented their country in the international break have made it to the final stages of Euro 2020. Who will play there?
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen
The German goalkeeper started the second of his country’s games during the international break, the 6-1 victory over Northern Ireland. Germany booked their place in Euro 2020 with a 2-0 over Belarus.
Frenkie de Jong
Like Germany, the Netherlands qualified for next summer’s tournament in November. De Jong played all 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw in Belfast against Northern Ireland that saw the ‘Oranje’ through and then 75 minutes more in the win over Estonia.
Sergi Roberto
Despite not being in the squad for the recent games, he is one of the Spanish Barcelona players who could be called up for the upcoming Euro 2020.
Jordi Alba
Alba has played only 90 minutes this season for Spain. He was injured for the most part of the qualifying stages and featured only once against Romania in September at the National Arena in Bucharest. Spain beat Romania at home with 5-0 and officially qualified for Euro 2020.
Sergio Busquets
Spain qualified for Euro 2020 during the previous international break and they followed that up with two more wins in November against Malta and Romania. Sergio Busquets played all 90 minutes in the 5-0 win over the latter.
Clement Lenglet
Two wins out of two for the Frenchman, including the 2-1 over Moldova which booked France’s ticket for Euro 2020.
Samuel Umtiti
Umtiti was not used much by France during the group stage, but he is likely to be in the Euro 2020 final squad.
Antoine Griezmann
The striker also played all 90 minutes in both France’s matches, scoring in the 2-0 win over Albania.
Ivan Rakitic
Rakitic has been a standard key player in the Croatia squad for many years now, but he missed the final two qualifying matches due to injury. Luckily Croatia managed to qualify for the Euro 2020 even without him.
Nelson Semedo
He may have missed the two final matches for Portugal, but is usually in the starting line-up for Santos’ side. Portugal will play in Euro 2020 thanks to a win against Luxembourg at the Stade Josy Barthel.
