Lionel Messi has entered the final six months of his contract.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is expected to leave Camp Nou for free when his contract expires this summer.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are frontrunners in signing the Barca legend.

Messi’s international teammate Angel Di Maria recently expressed his desire for the former to join him at Parc des Princes.

“Yes, yes, I hope so,” Di Maria said when asked whether Messi could join him in Paris.

“There are many possibilities. We have to be calm and things will develop.”

Ronald Koeman found Di Maria’s comments disrespectful when he hinted he could team up with Lionel Messi.

On Di Maria’s comments, Koeman said: “It’s wrong to say such things, especially because it heats up our Champions League match even more.

“I think it’s not fair and it’s disrespectful to talk so much about one player who is still playing for Barcelona.

“I think it is disrespectful to talk so much about Leo while he is playing for Barcelona, especially before a Champions League match against them.”

Angel Di Maria Confident Messi End Up At PSG

Angel Di Maria believes his compatriot, Lionel Messi will end up at PSG next.

There is already plenty of controversy surrounding the Argentine’s future back at Camp Nou.

He wanted to leave last summer itself before Barcelona intervened and stopped his exit. Messi agreed to see out his contract the details of which was controversially leaked by a Spanish news outlet.

With his future up in the clouds, there is strong connections between him and the Parisian outfit. Di Maria told Canal+ “I hope so. There’s a big chance. We have to be calm and to let things develop.”

Di Maria’s own contract is due to expire but he is confident over renewing and so is, Neymar.

“We’re speaking calmly at the moment,” Di Maria added. “Neymar is a lot younger, so it’s normal for them to speak to him first. We’re negotiating little by little, and the important thing is that I’m happy in Paris.”

Barcelona’s presidential election got postponed which has not helped smooth matters with Messi. There is also plenty of interest for him from England with Manchester City being the most likely to sign him.

Pep Guardiola extended his City stay until June 2023 and Messi will have a chance to reunite with his former coach. The Argentine hails Guardiola as the best manager in the world following their four prolific trophy-winning years at Barcelona from 2008 to 2012.

Ronald Koeman Shocked By Barcelona's Stunning 5-3 Cup Win

Ronald Koeman was impressed with how his players reacted in the 5-3 win over Granada.

Barcelona progressed to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey after their win on Wednesday.

“I’m very happy with the character we’ve shown,” Koeman said. “It showed in the dressing room after the game, and it’s a reflection of how well we’re doing. We’re on the path that everyone wants to be on.”

Even fans were taken aback by the attacking intent Barcelona showed on the night.

“It was incredible, football is incredible,” Koeman said. “I think we did well. We had chances earlier, but the team put in a huge effort. Extra time was incredible. It showed the mentality of this team. Incredible.”

“The thing that stands out most was the mentality of the team,” Koeman added. “We didn’t stop trying. We knew we weren’t having a lot of luck, we had chances that didn’t go in. They hit the goalkeeper or the woodwork. It seemed like we were going to lose.”

Antoine Griezmann was singled out for praise as Koeman explained, “He has always worked hard to change things, to have more luck. It’s important for him. With him playing like this, we’re even more dangerous.”

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has said that his club will now work in silence to get the deal for Lionel Messi done.

“I am not going to talk about what our player’s comment, as you know, because my words can be misunderstood, and then these words can go to another country in another way,” he told a news conference after a 3-0 win over Nimes.

“I have to be focused on trying to improve this team, from now to the end of the season, to try to achieve our goals, knowing that it is not going to be easy because we are in a difficult competition, in a weird situation, with the pandemic that it is affecting all of us, and also football.

“And then, the Champions League and Coupe de France, we will try to compete and go as far as we can, try to win, because in Paris, is all about to win.

“But I don’t want to give names, don’t want to think on the future. I’m sure that the club is working in different situations to improve. So let’s leave the club working in silence, in secret, in order to have a better team and with more possibilities to win.”

Barcelona Needs A President - Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman is fed up with the lack of support from the Barcelona hierarchy.

After over six months of managing the Blaugrana, Koeman admitted that having a president would have helped matters.

“I knew Barça’s moment was complicated for many reasons, I don’t mind being a spokesman for the club but I am the coach, which is already an important role,” Koeman said Tuesday.

“We need a president. If things go well on the pitch, everyone else at the club has it easier, but we need a president.

“A club like Barcelona cannot be without a president and we will see what happens above all to plan for the future at this great club.”

The presidential election was supposed to be conducted by January 26 but for some reason, it got delayed at the Camp Nou. Now, Barca have to continue on through the second half of the campaign without anybody in charge.

The ugly dismissal of Josep Bartomeu saw many new faces stand up for contention. Koeman has been thrown into the line of fire now as the lead responder to most questions. Last week, the Dutchman had to fight off questions regarding Lionel Messi’s leaked contract.

Frenkie De Jong Insists Messi's Contract Not Affecting Team Morale

Frenkie de Jong revealed that Barcelona players are not affected by the latest controversy surrounding Lionel Messi.

Spanish news outlet Mundo leaked information regarding Messi’s contract and that caused quite a stir.

La Liga president Javier Tebas came out to deny and links with Barcelona’s financial struggles. There were also reports of concern within the dressing room after hearing Messi made €555m over the past 4 seasons.

“It doesn’t affect us what’s happening outside,” said De Jong. “The dressing room is protected.”

“I would like Messi to stay next year with us, but it’s a topic I can’t say anything about. He has to decide what he wants to do with his future,” continued De Jong.

“It was one of the factors that made me decide to come to Barca. Not the most important one but one of the ones that influenced the decision. He’s been the best player in the world for 15 years. When I was 12 he already was that. So to play by his side is fantastic.”

Barcelona are second in the La Liga table and 10 points behind leaders, Atletico Madrid. They managed an impressive 1-0 win over Athletic Bilbao to climb over rivals, Real Madrid in the table.

Lionel Messi transfer rumors has been welcomed by Mauricio Pochettino at PSG.

“The club has a strategy to improve,” PSG boss Pochettino told RMC Sport.

“If the opportunity to coach Messi comes up, it’d be amazing. But if not, it’s not a problem.

“[Messi and I] share our love for Newell’s. We’ve both worn that shirt, we have that link. But we’ll see. You don’t know what the future holds for us and whether our paths will cross.”

“I think both of them are going to stay at PSG for a long time,” Pochettino added on Neymar and Mbappe.

“I have no doubts about that. I’m very optimistic and the club is working hard to be successful in talks and keep both.

“Rather than just information, I’ve got that feeling. But that’s how I see it: Mbappe and Neymar are happy, they’re enjoying themselves here and the club is working on keeping them both.”

Having Messi at PSG, it would mean that they would play alongside the legend and a trio of Mbappe, Messi and Neymar would wreak havoc all over Europe.

It all remains to be seen if Paris can outbid Man City for the salary offered to Leo.

Lionel Messi could end up staying at Barcelona

Joan Laporta believes Messi could stay beyond the end of this season.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has entered the final six months of his contract with Barcelona and is destined to leave Camp Nou by the end of this season.

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are likely destinations for the 33-year old forward.

Messi’s €555 contract was released by Spanish outlet El Mundo and Laporta had a chat with Messi after the news of his contract broke out.

“Yesterday I sent him a message and encouraged him, I told him that he does not have to pay attention to this news,” Laporta told RAC1.

“We all want him to stay here and I will do my best to keep it going. I have indications that he is fine in Barcelona, that he wants to stay here, but what he needs is a project from a team that continues to be competitive and wins the Champions League.”

“Messi generates more income than the money he costs,” he added.

“In our candidacy there is a study that shows that Messi generates a third of Barça’s income. Messi has not ruined the club, but a board of directors that has lost financial discipline since 2015 and lost its sense since it sold Neymar in 2017,” he added.

Lionel Messi’s Contract Is Not The Reason Barcelona’s Financial Woes

Lionel Messi's Contract Is Not The Reason Barcelona's Financial Woes

Lionel Messi’s contract reveal should not disrupt Barcelona’s situation.

Spanish newspaper, El Mundo leaked information regarding Messi’s salary that he signed in 2017.

The report claimed that the Argentine made €555m over the past four seasons as the deal expires this summer. No further extensions have been agreed upon yet. Messi is most likely to leave.

Barcelona’s very agregious financial conditions drew some controversial statements owing to Messi’s contract.

But LaLiga president Javier Tebas wrote via Twitter, “Barcelona’s delicate financial situation [like other big clubs] is not Messi’s fault but the devastating effect of COVID.

“Without the pandemic, the income generated by the best player in history would prop up that expenditure. The sensationalism that surrounds the matter is unfair.”

Messi’s future with Barca is still up in the clouds. He could depart for Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain and team up with his friend, Neymar. He continues to be a huge part of Barca, scoring 12 times and laying out 2 assists in the La Liga this season.

Ronald Koeman and almost everybody else associated to Barca have harped on the importance of keeping Messi. Losing him would be detrimental to their immediate future. What Barca should be doing is weeding out all the bad deals they have done in the past.

Ronald Koeman has praised Barcelona legend Lionel Messi after his heroics against Athletic.

“We’ve known, for quite some time, that he’s the best in the world,” the former Netherlands coach told Movistar Plus.

“He’s done a lot for the club. He’s decisive during games. You have to respect everything he’s done. He’s a great player, he gives us creativity in attack. Without Leo, you can’t aspire to much.”

Koeman added, according to Marca: “He hasn’t been more motivated today [because of the reports]. What’s happened has been for bad intentions, to cause harm.

“We have to be united and focused. Things that are published have to be put to the side, but it’s tough.”

Last night’s win over Athletic Bilbao took Barcelona to second spot but they are still potentially 13 points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid.

“The team is improving,” Koeman added. “There’s concentration, mentality. I’m not saying we didn’t have that before, but we’re growing in confidence.

“It’s important to be second. We want to be as high as possible. The gap to the leaders is big but we have to keep going.”

Griezmann who scored the winning goal, told Movistar Plus: “Sometimes you play and sometimes you don’t but in the end we are all part of this and we need everyone. Ousmane is playing very well, he is taking good care of himself and we try to ensure that he is in the best condition.”
