Lionel Messi has dropped a transfer bombshell on Barcelona.
The 6 time Ballon d’Or winner has produced endless nights of magic at Camp Nou but it seems he has come to the end of the road of his journey at the club. The player and the club have been at loggerheads for months now.
It started with the transfer of Neymar away from the club and the relationship never quite recovered. The player has now officially handed in a legal transfer request with the club yet to decide on his fate.
So can he actually leave the club? And how much can Barcelona make in transfer fees for the world’s best player?
The player has a £700 million release clause but there is another term which states that Messi can leave the club for free at the end of every season.
However, that clause states that for it to happen Messi must hand in the transfer request by June 10, the time around which usually the season ends.
The dispute is that FIFA had earlier announced that this season is set to extend and so all contracts that actually terminate in June will end in August instead.
So the legal team of Lionel Messi might actually use that argument and in all probability will be able to leave for free from the club who hold a £700 million release clause on their player!!
