Eric Garcia, a defender for Barcelona, has signed a season-long loan with Girona, a team in the same division
BREAKING NEWS!
🤝 Eric Garcia leaves on loan for Girona— FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) September 1, 2023
In Xavi’s defensive strategies as La Blaugrana won the La Liga championship the previous season, the Spanish international has had difficulty holding onto a regular starting position.
Although the club asked for Garcia, 22, to leave on loan, Xavi was willing to maintain him as a backup centre back option for the upcoming months.
Barcelona is still attempting to balance their bad financial condition by selling players, taking out loans, and releasing players on free transfers to raise money for the team.
Garcia signs a contract with Girona without a purchase clause that lasts through the 2023–24 season.
Garcia may have a chance to revitalise his waning career in the months ahead and even earn a spot on Spain’s Euro 2024 squad with a move outside of Catalonia. Under former manager Luis Enrique, he made one final appearance for the national team in 2022.
