Sergino Dest opens up on his struggles at Barcelona

Barcelona are willing to offload out-of-favour right-back this summer.

Sergino Dest arrived in the summer of 2020 from Ajax at Camp Nou but failed to make his mark at the club in the last three seasons.

The USMNT defender came to the club with high expectations but was loaned out to AC Milan last season where he played just 14 times for the Italian side.

Barcelona does have a shortage of right-back options and Xavi has often forced Jules Kounde to play in that area for the majority of the season.

Dest is deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona and the club is happy to offload him for as little as €10m.

But the right-back claims he has unfinished business with the Catalan giants and recently had a conversation with Xavi.

“He just told me, ‘I’ll give you a fair chance to prove yourself,'” Dest said. “So that’s what it is at the moment. He told me, ‘I think you have qualities, but it’s up to you, you have to show me,’ and I fully agree.

“So I think that’s all up to me. I think I have some qualities that can be good for the team, but I have to show it and be consistent.”
