Ter Stegen is reportedly going to extend his contract with Barcelona till 2025.

This decision has come after a long time – however, it’s not going to be an easy one to carry out. It is well known now that Barcelona is struggling financially due to the coronavirus pandemic, and players and employees are also facing wage cuts. In the middle of this financial pandemonium, extending a player’s contract – especially Ter Stegen might be difficult.

However, the German goalkeeper is determined to stay on with the Catalan club and his contract is reportedly going to run through till the year 2025, according to Mundo Deportivo. Ter Stegen has been with Barcelona for six years and counting – and so for him to leave the club would have been a sad decision.

This news is not yet confirmed officially, but it could be announced anytime now. Ter Stegen has also admitted that contract extension talks were further delayed due to the pandemic situation.

Currently, the 28-year-old goalkeeper is recovering from knee surgery after he injured himself back in August. Neto has been playing in his place and been doing a fairly good job so far in the first three matches of the new season. However, surely Barcelona will want their main goalkeeper back soon!
