Frenkie de Jong made 59 appearances when playing under ten Hag at Ajax.

Barcelona might lose Frenkie de Jong in 2023 who is supposed to leave Camp Nou. The Barca man was linked with Manchester United but deal didn’t happen last summer.

The Red Devils have been handed an ‘encouraging’ sign in their bid, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Erik ten Hag will be presented with an opportunity to boost his squad when the January window opens for business.

As per the Manchester Evening News, de Jong has given assurances that he would be happy to join Manchester United during private conversations with ten Hag.

The report adds the United’s hopes of signing the Dutchman during the summer fell apart thanks to a deferral in his Barcelona wages.

Premier League club thought they had got De Jong when a deal worth up to £72million was agreed upon last summer, but he ended up remaining at Camp Nou.

Jones admits Man United have been boosted in their pursuit of de Jong if he has admitted to being willing to head to Old Trafford.

Jones told GiveMeSport: “If he really has said that he’s open to a move to United, then I guess that’s encouraging.

“But this is a player who was absolutely adamant that he did not want to leave Barcelona and since he made that statement, he’s got himself into the team.”

The Netherlands international made a good impact in World Cup 2022. He is 25 years old and also made 59 appearances when playing under ten Hag at Ajax.
