Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham Hotspur is another player that Barcelona is keeping an eye on in addition to top target Ilkay Gundogan of Manchester City
The Catalan giants are hopeful about the free transfer of the German midfielder, but they have not yet received the player’s final decision.
A successor for Sergio Busquets is also a priority, but Xavi is currently looking into the idea of bringing in a creative midfielder. The Spanish manager, according to Mundo Deportivo, is a fan of Lo Celso and thinks that he can serve as the creative catalyst for star striker Robert Lewandowski. Lo Celso recovered at Villarreal after struggling for a while with Spurs after joining them on loan at the start of the previous year.
The 27-year-old was a key component of the Yellow Submarine’s incredible Champions League run in 2021–2022, which saw the underdog Spanish team defeat Bayern Munich and Juventus en route to the semi-finals.
Lo Celso was a major contributor to Argentina’s Copa America victory in 2021 but was injured and was unable to join the World Cup roster. After returning from injury, Lo Celso had a significant influence, helping Quique Setien’s team qualify for the Europa League the next year.
The Argentine playmaker has returned to Tottenham and is awaiting word from new boss Ange Postecoglou on his future there. Xavi is interested in Alex Baena, another Yellow Submarine player, but his high price tag makes him an unlikely target. Brazilian striker Vitor Roque of Athletico Paranaense is reportedly close to signing with Barca.
