Frenkie de Jong will not move to Manchester United this summer.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been high up on Erik Ten Hag’s shortlist since the last summer window.

United came close to signing the Dutch midfielder for £70m and a deal failed to materialise.

But De Jong wanted to prolong his stay at Camp Nou and the narrative has not changed this summer yet.

Frenkie de Jong has recently admitted that he ‘feels good at Barcelona’ and doesn’t plan to leave the Catalan giants anytime soon.

‘That has been clear to me, also last summer when things were restless for a while,’ De Jong said when asked by Voetbal International.

‘I always knew that I wanted to stay at Barcelona,’ he added. ‘That’s why it wasn’t so stressful for me last summer.

‘Also, I had just signed a contract extension [in 2020] so I always felt that I was in control and able to decide for myself.

‘That’s why I didn’t bother [worrying about it]. I feel good at Barcelona and assume that I will still be playing here next season.’
