In spite of everything, Messi is set ot remain in Spain.

Barcelona is set to offer Lionel Messi an improved deal to tie the Argentine forward to the Camp Not for more seasons. Messi has less than 18 months in his current deal and he has been pondering on the next move with interest from Premier League clubs.

The Argentine striker has a split clause in his contract which means he can leave on a free at the expiration of his contract, it has been reported that Messi would be happy working to a rolling year-to-year contract from 2021.

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu would prefer to sign Messi to a more secure deal – in part to strengthen his own candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections. Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nicolo Schira revealed: Barcelona is working on Messi’s renewal until 2023 with a wages of €50m-per-year.

Talks are ongoing to extend his contract of the midfield maestro. There have been concerns about Messi’s future at the Barcelona, the bust up with Sporting director Eric Abidal and Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Stegen has fueled speculation that he might leave his boyhood club at the end of the current campaign.
