Xavi is currently the manager of Qatari club Al Sadd and he is speculated to be the next head coach for the Catalan club.

However, even though Bartomeu is very fond of the former Barcelona player, he has dismissed Xavi as the manager and wants to stick to Setien.

“I have an excellent relationship with Xavi and we talk with him about many topics,” Bartomeu said. “But next year Quique Setien has a contract and he is the one we have hired. I trust him and his team.

“He is very clear about the game model and the style of Barca. He is a veteran with experience and good psychology and the fact that they have self-criticised reaffirms what I think of him, that he can win the Champions League and move forward next season.”

He is set on Setien remaining the Barcelona manager for the next year as well because of the contract signed with him.

“But Quique Setien currently has a contract with Barcelona and still has a contract for next year.

“We have always said that Quique Setien is our coach and he will guide us in this Champions League, which is our great hope.

“Napoli is the first step, and then he’ll continue in the following season.”
